BREAST AUGMENTATION
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that uses implants to enhance the size and shape of a womans breast for a number of reasons:
- to enhance the body contour of a woman who, for personal reasons feel her breast is too small;
- to restore the natural breast volume, which may have decreased as a result of pregnancy, weight loss or aging;
- to balance a difference in breast size;
- as a reconstructive technique following breast surgery.
Augmentation is accomplished by placing an implant either under the breast gland itself or deeper, behind the chest wall muscle. The breast implants come in various sizes and shapes, allowing individualizing your new breast appearance.
A breast implant is a silicone shell filled with either salt- water solution known as saline or with a silicone gel. Silicone is widely used and essential material in every day life. No better alternative material has become available. In all fields of medicine and surgery, implants and medical devices made from silicone remain essential not only for aesthetics, but also for reconstructive procedures.
Additional medical studies demonstrated that there is no scientific evidence that silicone allergy, silicone intoxication, or a new silicone disease exists and there is no any association between silicone-gel filled breast implants and traditional auto-immune or connective tissue diseases, cancer or any other malignant disease. Silicone- gel filled implants do not adversely affect pregnancy, foetal development, breast feeding or the health of breastfed children.
The technique used for your surgery depends on your desired results. The incision is small and is usually made in one of three locations: underneath the breast just above the crease; around the lower edge of the areola; or within the armpit.
Incisions are made to keep scars as inconspicuous as possible; scars will fade with time.
Your new look will bring you greater freedom with fashion and may give your self-image a boost as well.
Breast augmentation is performed under a general anaesthesia, so you will sleep during the entire operation.
Your will need to stay in the clinic for just one night.
A compressive dressing such as an elasticised bandage or specially designed bra may have been advised. It minimizes the swelling and helps to give a better appearance.
Staff of the clinic will take care of you until the healing process is complete.
